Lecture 4
HOT TOPIC 1: LICENSED TO CARRY
Question:
What cloak (covering) did you sell so that you could carry your gun (sword) in church?
Read John 10:1-6
Based on John 10:1-6, you need a permit to carry, so it’s time we pull out our receipts.
Sell Your Cloak, Buy a Sword – Was This the Right To Bear Arms?
We are going to be considering this HOT TOPIC
GUNS in CHURCH.
and whether Jesus’ last lesson for the disciples before his arrest was to give them the right to bear arms in church.
· Did Jesus tell the disciples to sell their cloaks and buy a sword meaning that they were to now protect themselves and fight for themselves?
· Was Jesus giving the okay for his disciples to kill or fight against another?
· What was Jesus saying?
In this journey of picking up Activation Keys, we learned that it has to do with unlocking understanding, so let’s start with understanding what it means to contradict. We want to consider that first because it would seem to be a contradiction for Jesus to teach love and forgiveness; then, to change that message to one of self-defense.
Does the Bible, the Word of God, Contradict itself?
To contradict means that one would state the opposite of what someone has said and that the fact or statement would be so different that one of them must be wrong.
In John 12:49, Jesus said that He does not speak on his own, but He speaks what the Father who sent Him commands Him to say. (See also, John 3:32-34; 5:19; 7:16; 8:28,38; 9:4 and 14:10, 24) So Jesus would not have contradicted God the Father.
In Isaiah 55:11, God said that His word that goes forth from His mouth will not return to Him without results.
In Hebrews 6:13-20, we are shown that we can anchor ourselves to God’s Word because God cannot lie. God swears by His own Word which is immutable.
So, let’s look at a few New Testament scriptures to see what God says about our fighting one another. Make sure to take notes on each verse.
Before I share what the Spirit says about this issue, let’s look at what men think Jesus meant when Jesus told His disciples to sell their cloaks and buy a sword. In the first video that you are getting ready to see, notice the words and actions of men who believe that according to God’s Word, we can bear arms.

Bearing Arms in a Church Make It Make Sense
Do you think this conveys an accurate understanding of the lesson that Jesus was trying to teach his disciples as found in Luke 22:35-38?
Or is this yet another lesson that went over the heads of the disciples, just like when Jesus was talking to them about leaven?
This attitude of taking up arms to defend oneself is not what Jesus was saying when He said to sell your cloak and buy a sword, just like He was not talking to the disciples about bread when He said to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees.
The fact that this is not understood today is understandable only because of two things:
a. Just like the disciples missed in understanding what Jesus was saying when Jesus talked to them about the cloak, the sword, and the leaven it could be expected that this would also be missed today.
b. Jesus was arrested and put to death so he didn’t go into detail to explain what He meant
Was there a hidden explanation left for us today to understand what was meant?
This that I am preparing to share is not discernable by a carnal mind, because it is taught by the Holy Spirit.
