Module 6: The Helmet of Salvation-Lecture 1

Lecture 1

To Guard Your Heart, Cover Your Ears

This next piece of armor that we will be discussing, the helmet of salvation, covers your head, your brain, your mind, and most importantly, your ears.

The reason why the covering of your ears is the most important is that the ears are the doorkeepers (gatekeepers) to our minds.

Read Proverbs 23:7 Who are You?

God’s Word tells us that as a man thinketh, so is he. Let me ask you a question, when a person asks you, “Who are you?”, how do you respond? Do you proceed to tell them about your parents, your siblings, your mate, and your children? Do you proceed to tell them about the work that you do, or your level of education? While these things are a part of what keeps you busy in your day-to-day lives, these things are not who “you” are.

Take a moment and make a list of ten things that you can say about who YOU are.

After you make that list, open the attached file and see what God says about you.

Compare what you have listed about yourself to what God says about you.

Know that everything that God says about you is true.

It is important to know what God says about us because that will help us to protect our ear gates when the enemies come to us with lies. In 1 John 4:1 we are told not to believe every spirit, but to test every spirit to see whether it is from God. In Philippians 4:8 we are told that what we are to think about is “whatever is true, honest, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous, or praiseworthy.” In Romans 10:17 we are told that “faith (what we believe strongly in) comes from hearing…” So our helmet is important because it helps us to pay attention to what we are hearing.

This is not a little matter at all.

Proverbs 23:7 King James Version

For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

The ears are the gateway to our thoughts. What we think about gets into our hearts. Our heart is the seat of motivation. Proverbs 4:23 tells us that everything that we do comes from our hearts. This is why we must guard our hearts. Therefore, the only way to truly guard our hearts is to watch what gets into our hearts and that means we must pay close attention to what we listen to in conversation, entertainment, and even in what we speak to ourselves in the quiet of our thoughts.

As a recap, what is the reason that we would want to protect our ears?
