Module 4: Feet Shod with the Preparation of the Gospel of Peace – Lecture 2

Lecture 2

When Your Garment Becomes A Lethal Weapon

As I considered this part of the armor of God closer, I discovered that to have one’s foot shod means that we are ready to do some damage.

Let me be the first to tell you that I was shocked when I found this out. In my research, I came across the website of Altman, Attorneys at Law which went into detail about what it meant, from the legal standpoint, to have one’s feet shod. This is what it said:

“In a commonly charged scenario, a defendant’s foot can be considered a dangerous weapon if used to kick or otherwise inflict injury on the victim. This is generally referred to as “shod foot” ABDW, meaning that the defendant’s foot is shod in footwear making it capable of inflicting a greater injury than an unshod foot. The reasoning behind this charge is that a defendant wearing a heavy boot can inflict a much greater injury by kicking than a defendant wearing regular footwear or no footwear. Thus, depending on the circumstances, a jury can find that a defendant’s shod foot constitutes a dangerous weapon.” (Altman Attorneys at Law, n.d.)

Now do you understand why it was important for us to start off by identifying what a shod foot really looks like. Growing up, I heard that a picture is a thousand words. So, imagine being presented with pictures that show us unshod feet all this time but we didn’t DISCERN what we were being spoon-fed – namely, a contradiction. We were hearing that we needed to shod of our (which is correct), but we were being shown pictures of really cute sandals not realizing what we were subconsciously being unprepared, not prepared for battle.

So, according to this attorney’s website, the injury would come from being kicked with a covered foot. For example, if a person had on a steel-toed boot and that person kicked another person in a manner in which they did some damage, the charge for that is called ABDW meaning that their feet were now being viewed as being a weapon. This makes me think of some old news reports of fights that some victims got into where they were violently kicked (stomped) by a group of assailants. That kicking can do major damage causing serious injury to the organs of the one being abused.

Here is another thing that I thought of too: The prophecy found in Genesis 3:15.

Read Genesis 3:15

Which is more deadly, a heel wound or a head wound?

We are told that the curse spoken over the devil, in the Garden of Eden, was that the seed of the woman would crush him in the head, and he would administer to the seed of the woman a heel wound. The entirety of the Old Testament is about following the path of the prophesied promised seed of the Woman until it is revealed – in the New Testament to be Jesus.

I wonder now if this is why Jesus told us to have our feet shod. You see, with the feet being shod, the serpent would not be able to do much damage. No matter how much the serpent would try to bite you when your feet are properly shod then no attack would be prosperous.

How many weapons formed against you shall prosper?
